What Ella has to say:
What made you decide to become a Consultant?
Geography and GIS have always been a natural home for my various interests in the environment, people and place. Working as a GIS Consultant is the perfect way to apply these interests in a practical context.
What did you do before joining Interpret?
Shortly after completing my undergraduate degree I worked as a Geospatial Information Intern at the Department of Conservation, following this I was employed as a GIS Analyst at the New Zealand Walking Access Commission. I was also fortunate enough to spend six months travelling throughout Asia.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
The opportunity to apply GIS in a way that makes a difference for our clients. I especially value solutions that help organisations realise the value of GIS and how they can make the most out of their geospatial data.
What is the most challenging thing about your job?
It can be challenging keeping up with the pace of GIS technology. However, the variety of client groups and projects that come to Interpret mean my skills will always be growing and evolving as the industry advances.
What has been your career highlight so far?
Completing an Internship at the Department of Conservation. This role kick-started my career and most importantly opened my eyes to the wonders and possibilities of GIS.
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
Catch me outdoors, rock climbing, trail running or skiing. Otherwise I will be surrounded by good food, friends and family.
