Kurt Janssen (NZEUG President) and Natalie Scott (NZEUG Commitee Member) of Interpret are busy organising the 2015 Esri Users Group Christchurch Regional Conference. This conference will be held at the YMCA in Christchurch on March 30th. Be sure to head along as this is an event you dont want to miss. Last Tuesday (9th December) Interpret opened its doors to those in the Spatial Community for drinks and nibbles. Thanks to all who attended it was a great night with a large turnout and lots of laughter. The Interpret staff would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Dale Harris recently attended the Australasian Road Safety Research, Policing and Education Conference (ARSPRE) in Melbourne, where she took out the award for “Road Safety Poster Award”. This prize is awarded to recognize the poster that reflects a completed safety programme, campaign or research project. The focus of Dale’s poster was on developing a Risk Prediction Model that understood the road hazards on low- volume rural roads. . The winning poster can be viewed here. We are proud to announce that Natalie Scott has recently been awarded Esri Technical Certification, which recognises superior skill levels utilising Esri’s software for geographic information systems (GIS). Natalie was awarded the ArcGIS Desktop Associate Certification.
The team from Interpret returned from the Esri User Conference full of enthusiasm and new knowledge gained at the conference. The Interpret booth was well attended with the lego USBs being in great demand. The lego theme was carried through to the Interpret presentations and dress for the conference dinner. The winner of the 8 hours of free consultancy time was Robert Flintoff from Transfield.
We are delighted to announce that Abley Transportation Consultants is the recipient of a R & D Student grant provided by Callaghan Innovation, as announced today by Science an Innovation Minister Steven Joyce. The grant allows Abley, under its GIS banner Interpret Geospatial Solutions, to employ a student intern to undertake research and development in the road safety area. The project looks to develop a Journey Planner that allows users to optimise their trips by the safest route. GIS-based tools will be used to develop a model to calculate the road safety risk. We are presently looking to employ a student who is studying in the area of GIS. More information on this position can be downloaded from here.
