One of the things that Councils need to do is to produce Land Information Memoranda (LIMs) for properties in their jurisdiction. The maps for these LIMs can require information from a variety of sources and can take quite some time to compile from scratch. We developed an automated LIM mapping system for Waimakariri District Council to speed up the process of creating LIMs, and to help ensure that all the output maps from the council were consistent.
We designed a programme to automatically create maps for the council LIMs. The lightweight desktop application was customised to the exact needs of the council, so that they got the maps they wanted with no fuss and bother. It was designed to be used by staff with no training in GIS, so the only inputs that were needed were an address and a reference number.
The AutoLIM application has drastically reduced the time it takes for council staff to produce LIM maps. It has also ensured that all the output maps are of a consistently high quality and reference the right datasets. It also means that the series of maps are easy for non-technical staff to produce.
